What is the difference between sake and rice shochu? | Rakura Hakata Chikushi Exit Station

Hello, I am the PR person in charge of Rakuzo Hakata Chikushiguchi Ekimae Store.

Rakura's menu features traditional Japanese dishes with a special artisanal "seared" taste. There is no reason why a dish of this kind should not be paired with alcohol. We would like to match beer, whiskey, wine, and a variety of other dishes, but that would include sake and shochu as well. We carry rice shochu, but how is it different from sake?

[What's the difference?

Sake and rice shochu are the same in that they both use rice as an ingredient. However, they taste different, have different alcohol content, and are made from different ingredients. The first difference is the way it is made. Sake is brewed, while shochu is distilled. Distilled sake is made by heating brewed sake in a distiller, which makes it lighter and simpler to drink than brewed sake. Also, sake uses rice for brewing, whereas shochu uses grain or potato starch in addition to rice.

What kind of food goes well with it?

特選お造り五品盛り

Since they have different tastes, it is a matter of personal preference, but since they are based on rice, they both go very well with seafood. The best balance of "Assorted horse sashimi directly from Kumamoto" is that the fat of the horse sashimi is enhanced by the sweetness of the rice. Our restaurant offers a wide selection of delicious shochu, including "Hakudake Shiro" and "29 (Niju Kyu)" for rice shochu, and Otters and Hakkaisan for sake. By drinking with an awareness of the differences, you may discover a new way to enjoy sake.
