「鏡開き」の由来をご紹介します！ | 楽蔵うたげ品川港南口

毎年、お正月には鏡餅を先祖にお供えする方も多いのではないでしょうか？1月11日になると鏡餅を割ってお雑煮やお汁粉にする「鏡開き」を行う習慣がありますが、もともとは別の日に行っていました。今回は、そんな「鏡開き」の由来を紹介したいと思います。

どうして「鏡開き」と言うの？

お供えした鏡餅を割る「鏡開き」はもともと武家の行事でした。鏡餅を「切る」のではなく「開く」と言うのは、「切る」というのは縁起が悪いとされていたからだそうです。もともと、鏡開きは1月20日に行われていたのですが、徳川家光がこの日に亡くなってしまったために、1月11日を「鏡開き」の日と定めたのです。
