Hello, this is Rakuzo Utage Yurakucho. This is Rakuzo Utage Yurakucho.
Have you ever heard of the whisky called "Taketsuru Pure Malt"? Many people in Japan may first think of Suntory when they think of whiskey, but it is said that Masataka Taketsuru, the originator of the name Taketsuru, was the first person to make whiskey in Japan. In this article, we will briefly introduce the history of Taketsuru Pure Malt.
Takekizuru Pure Malt was launched in 2000 as "Takekizuru 12 Years Pure Malt". This whisky was produced under the motto "Pure malt whisky that is as easy to drink as blended whisky," and was highly acclaimed at numerous whisky competitions. The "Taketsuru Pure Malt" was newly added to the lineup in 2013, prior to the discontinuation of the "Taketsuru 12 Year Old Pure Malt" in March 2014.
In contrast to blended whisky, which is generally considered light and easy to drink, pure malt whisky is said to be a heavy drink with character. Taketsuru Pure Malt was created with the aim of making pure malt whiskey as easy to drink as blended whiskey, while retaining the unique character of pure malt whiskey.
The man behind the name of this Taketsuru Pure Malt is Masataka Taketsuru. In 1918, at the age of 24, Masataka Taketsuru went alone to Scotland, the home of Scotch whisky, to learn the art of whisky making. He then established a whisky distillery in Japan and produced a number of whiskies, which was the beginning of today's Nikka Whisky.
