Hello, I am the PR person in charge of Rakuzo Abeno Gochisou Building Branch (Tennoji).
There are various types of shochu indispensable to izakaya, including rice, barley, sweet potato, and brown sugar. Each has its own unique flavor and aroma depending on the ingredients, and each is loved by its fans.
In this issue, we introduce popular potato shochu from a variety of shochu and dishes that go well with potato shochu.
Kurokirishima 500 yen (tax not included)
Kurokirishima is a sweet potato shochu made with "black koji" malted rice. It is characterized by its mild sweetness and crisp aftertaste. It is a popular brand that is easy to drink and refreshing.
Sea 500 yen (excluding tax)
It is very easy to drink with a slight sweetness of sweetpotato, a mellow aroma, and a refreshing throat sensation, and is recommended for women and sweetpotato shochu beginners.
Mitake 550 yen (tax not included)
A sweet potato shochu born in Yakushima and brewed with spring water from Yakushima, selected as one of the 100 best waters in Japan. It has a clear taste and is not peculiar, so it is recommended as an in-dinner drink.
Seared handmade Satsuma-age 590 yen (without tax)
Since sweetpotato shochu has a mellow and strong aroma, it is recommended to be paired with dishes that have a strong, robust flavor rather than light dishes that make the most of the flavors of the ingredients.
Also, potato shochu, which is made from sweet potatoes, has a slight sweetness to it, making it a good match for sweet dishes.
Such a characteristic sweetpotato shochu goes well with Kagoshima's local dish, satsuma-age. Since sweetpotato shochu comes from Kagoshima, this combination is the best.
It also goes well with other well-seasoned fried foods such as the "Special Monja Croquette" for 630 yen (excluding tax).
